Big Dodge

(With respectful apologies and a sausage to Jimmy Dean)

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

If you looked in the morning, it was there in the street,

It weighed nearly three tons,  measured over 12 feet.

With a cracked vinyl top, and white paint turning gray,

And the neighborhood drivers all had to give way to Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...

It was an old 1970 Dart,

Didn't have that much pep, but it had lots of heart,

It was not what you'd call one of the Classic Car picks,

But it had a big frame, and a faithful slant six, that Big Dodge...

You could hear the guy swearing when trying to park,

It had blind spots, and steered slightly worse than the Ark

Solid steel, rear wheel, automatic, two door,

She could move, if you held the gas right to the floor, that Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Took an hour to warm her, and she needed her lead,

But she could get going, if you gave her head,

When the winds drove the other cars off of the road,

She'd stay right where she was, hanging on to her load, that Big Dodge...

She'd been scraped, had her dents, but she still had her pride,

With just room for two men and two midgets inside,

And a trunk that could hold a whole family of four,

And a guillotine waiting in each opened door, that Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Then one day, on the interstate, you could hear the brakes shriek,

When a nut in a Geo'd had his booze for the week...

He was zigging, and weaving, and blowing his horn...

And he had nothing left in his heart but pure scorn for Big Dodge...

He could see it, just making a flat sixty-five,

And the drunk in the Geo just wanted to drive

Any way that he wanted, as fast as he could...

But his honking, and flashing, it just did no good with Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...

So he came roaring up, only booze in his brain,

And they found the skid marks, far behind in the lane...

But that nut, and his Geo, could not even stain...

The solid steel rear bumper... Of Big Dodge.

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big Dodge...

Big OLD Dodge...

Big Dodge...
